What is THATCamp?
THATCamp (The Humanities And Technology Camp) is a user-generated “unconference” on digital humanities inspired by the Center for History and New Media (CHNM) at George Mason University. At THATcamp 2009, CHNM floated the idea of holding regional camps around the country, an idea that quickly took hold, leading to events throughout the US and Europe.
An unconference is not a spectator event. Participants at THATCamp are expected to present their work, share their knowledge, and actively collaborate with fellow participants rather than simply attend.

Who should attend?
This particular THATCamp is focused, in part, on bringing together those with an interest in oral history and audio/video production, but is open to anyone with energy and an interest in digital humanities, regardless of specialization. That includes academics, librarians, archivists, cultural activists, curators, students, educators, journalists and professionals in all fields where technology and the humanities collide.
What should I propose?
That’s up to you. Sessions at THATCamp will range from software demos to training sessions to discussions of research findings to half-baked rants (but please no full-blown papers; we’re not here to read or be read to). You should come to THATCamp with something in mind, and on the first day find a time, a place, and people to share it with. Once you’re at THATCamp, you may also find people with similar topics and interests to team up with for a joint session. Basically, if it falls under the topic of the humanities and technology, and impacts you, your organization, or the field of digital humanities (broadly defined) then it’s fair game. Where and when will THATCamp be held?
The event will be held at the City Club of Cleveland on October 13th. The City Club, located on Euclid Avenue near E. 9th Street, is less than a half mile from the Downtown Marriott (location of OHA 2012). Most attendees should find this to be a brief and enjoyable walk. However, if you would prefer not to walk, cabs are available in front of the Marriott (as well as in front of all downtown hotels). Registration is closed. Additional spots may be available due to cancellation. Please email us at if you are interested in late registration.
How much does it cost?
We ask that attendees donate a minimum of $10 after submitting their application to help defray the cost of food and other goodies. Registrants who are attending OHA 2012 will be submit this payment when signing up (under the “workshop” choices in the registration form). For THATCampers not attending OHA 2012, we will “pass the hat” at the event.
